Hello chess blog friends, the 3rd Yury Privalov Memorial was held from 28th October to 2nd November 2014 in Lviv, a city in western Ukraine. The event was organized in honor of the Ukrainian trainer Yuriy Privalov in a 10-player IM round-robin format with a time control 90′ + 30″.
IM Daniil Shkuran emerged a clear winner on 7/9 points, followed by IM Petr Golubka with 6.5 points. Third place was shared by WFM Iulija Osmak and Piotr Sabuk on 6 points, but Osmak prevailed on a better tie-break score and took the bronze. The 16-year-old girl fulfilled her last WIM norm. Yury Privalov (1958-2007) became a National Master at the age of 28. Later he was a chess trainer in the Lviv Chess School “Дебют” (“Opening”) where many of today’s Ukrainian Grandmasters have been raised. Among Privalov’s students were top players GM Yuriy Kryvoruchko(2710), GM Anna Muzychuk (2548), GM Kateryna Lagno(2530), GM Nazar Firman (2459), IM Mariya Muzychuk(2526), WGM Liza Soloviova (2301).
