FIDE Chess Ratings: Caruana 19 points behind Carlsen; Grischuk, Kosteniuk Russia No. 1
Hello chess blog friends, the chess ratings list for October have been released by FIDE. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen remains at the No. 1 slot with a rating of 2863. However, this time he is not too far away from the rest of the field. Just 19 points away is Fabiano Caruana at the No. 2 spot. Caruana gained a whopping 43 points recently to get ahead of Levon Aronian. Caruana is set to play the Baku edition of the Grand Prix as top seed and the next tournament coming up for Carlsen is the World Chess Championship.
Veselin Topalov is up at 2800, Grischuk is at 2979 while Aronian is at 2793. Viswanathan is next with 2785.
In the women's section, Judit Polgar is still at No. 1 though she has announced her retirement from professional chess. World Chess Champion Hou Yifan of China is next followed by Ju Wenjun, another Chinese. Indian talent Humpy Koneru is in the fourth spot.
For the Russians, the top country players are Alexander Grischuk and Alexandra Kosteniuk in the men's and women's section. Incidentally, Chess Queen Kosteniuk recently reached her best-ever rating after winning the World Chess Championship in 2008. Read a nice post by GM Kosteniuk at www.chessqueen.com.
