29th National Chess Championship 25-30 April 2014

Chess Federation of Pakistan is organizing 29th National Chess Championship 2014 from 25th April to 30th April in the historical city of Lahore. Ten top players from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will be eligible to take part along with the teams of Wapda, Pakistan Railways, Pakistan International Airlines and Higher Education Commision. National Chess Champion and International Master Mahmood Ahmad Lodhi is tipped to be the favorite although he faces a strong challenge from his younger colleagues.

It is a 11-round swiss league event with a time control of 130 minutes plus a 30 seconds increment from move one.
The 29th National Chess Championship is the second premier event of the year after the 4th National Women Chess Championship which was also held at Lahore from 28th to 30th March.
The National Championship shall also serve the purpose of a selection tournament to select the Pakistan Chess Team which will take part in 41st World Chess Olympiads at Tromso, Norway in August 2014, under the auspices of World Chess Federation. The Chess Federation of Pakistan has made special arrangements for the National Championship as it will be played under the strict guidelines of World Chess Federation (FIDE). (CFP)
