Hello everyone,
The 51st Groningen Chess Festival was held from 21st to 30th December at the Sport Centre Rijksuniversiteit & Hanzehogeschool in Groningen, Netherlands.
The highlight of the chess festival was the exhibition match between Anatoly Karpov and Jan Timman. The 12th World Champion won the match by 2,5-1,5.
University of Groningen Chess Challenge was a match between former European Champion GM Jan Werle and the reigning Dutch Youth Champion (U21) Nick Maatman.
The main Open A for players rated above 2000 had 103 participants. GM Andriasian Zaven ARM 2610, GM L'Ami Erwin NED 2645, IM Bok Benjamin NED 2540 and GM Ernst Sipke NED 2566 shared the first place with 7 points each.
