Indonesia Chess Open Round 7: Alexey Dreev Keeps Lead

Today was a double round at one of the top open championships of the year Indonesia Open 2013. GM Alexey Dreev (interview here) kept the sole lead achieved in R5 after a gift and a hard fought draw. He is eager to achieve a good score before his important participation at the European Club Cup 2013.
Among the women, WGM Elisabeth Paehtz (interview here) is now on 5,0/7, while GM Antoaneta Stefanova and GM Hoang Thanh Trang are close behind on 4.5/7.

Round 6, the morning round
The tournament leader in GM Alexey Dreev was expected to have a tough encounter against first seeded GM Alexander Moiseenko in a top board match-up of the morning round, but it was not to be as somehow Moiseenko did not manage to make the game on time. With this gift Dreev consolidated his lead to 5.5/6, a result which left the chasing pack with everything to do. On second board GM Sandro Mareco drew quickly against GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly by allowing repetition of an opening variation already played earlier by Black and leaving both with 4.5/6.
However on third board GM Ivan Ivanisevic pushed hard against GM Hoang Thanh Trang and the resulting win brought him to 5/6 and sole second place in the standings.
It was much the same with those further behind on 3.5/5, only GM Laylo Darwin winning against GM Jaan Ehlvestto give him a share of third to fifth places together with Ganguly and Mareco.
The games GM G N Gopal against GM Nigel Short, GM Vadim Malakhatko against GM Eduardo Iturrizaga, GM Vaibhav Suri against GM Ivan Sokolov, GM John Paaul Gomez against GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, GM Renier Vazquez Igarza against GM Cao Sang, GM Antoaneta Stefanova against GM Abhijeet Gupta, GM Gundavaa Bayarsaikhan against GM Avetik Grigorian, GM Oliver Basrbosa against IM Rolando Nolte and GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami against IM Dede Lioe, all ended in draws which put them all a full point and a half behind behind on 4/6 and allowed Moiseenko, Hoang, GM Shyam Sundar M, GM Batchuluun Tsegmed, GM Dao Tien Hai, IM Nguyen Duc Hoa, GM Djurabek Khamrakulov, WGM Elisabeth Paehtz and IM Nguyen Van Huy to join them in a massive tie for sixth to 26th places.
In the race for the special women's prizes after round 6, it was Hoang, Stefanova and Paehtz on 4/6 followed by WGMs Anna Zozulia and Medina Warda Aulia on 3.5/6.

The eagerly watched top board encounter was between GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly (4.5) and leader Dreev (5.5) while on second board, GM Ivan Ivanisevic (5) who has so far played arguably the most uncompromising chess, faced the still undefeated GM Sandro Mareco (4.5). On third board, the top seeded GM Alexander Moiseenko (4) was lookiog to put his previous rounds default behind him against the battle hardened GM Darwin Laylo (4.5).
