Czech GM Vlastimil Babula Wins SV Werder Bremen Chess

Sportverein Werder Bremen organized a Grandmaster round robin tournament on 21-29th September at Werder Halle. This was the strongest event in Bremen since 1927. Most of the field was comprised of members of Werder chess club, plus a group of young talented IMs. Experienced Czech Grandmaster Vlastimil Babula won the tournament with 6,5/9 points. The top German junior 16-years old Matthias Blübaum finished clear second with 6,0 points, only half a point shy from the GM norm.
Final standings:1. GM Babula Vlastimil CZE 2571 – 6,5
2. IM Blübaum Matthias GER 2514 – 6,0
3-4. IM Meins Gerlef GER 2448 and GM Fish Gennadij GER 2464 – 5,5
5-6. IM Burg Twan NED 2490 and GM Nybäck Tomi FIN 2599 – 5,0
7. WGM Ohme Melanie GER 2350 – 4,0
8. IM Joachim Sven GER 2422 – 3,0
9. IM Bekker-Jensen Simon DEN 2420 – 2,5
10. FM Asendorf Joachim GER 2357 – 2,0
