Hi everyone,

Here's a cool report via Fide on the 14th ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championship in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

SHOW TIME!

In addition to challenging chess, the ASEAN Age-Group Championships are about much more: there is a tremendous opportunity for learning, and to create lasting international friendships. With the completion of the Rapid and Blitz Championships, it was 'Show Time'! A highly enjoyable social night saw children from each country performing on stage for the entertainment of all. The morning of the third day was free for sightseeing and shopping in the temples and markets of Thailand's ancient capital, Chiang Mai.

In the afternoon the tournament became more serious with the first round of the Standard Chess Championships. Vietnam, the tournament favourites, face a strong challenge from the Philippine camp. Games from the top boards are available for download in PGN format on the tournament website: 14thaseanagegroupchess.com, and results of all sections can be found at chess-results.com

Delegates from eight countries - Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam - were present for their annual meeting, along with ACC President Ignatius Leong, at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel. Amongst other items on the agenda, it was agreed that the next Age-Group Championships will be held in the Philippines.
