New Chess Record: 13-year-old Charlize van Zyl is South Africa's Youngest WIM

Hi everyone, 

A 13-year-old girl has become the youngest South African to win the world chess federation title of Woman International Master, it was reported on Monday. Charlize van Zyl, of Collegiate Girls High School in Port Elizabeth, won the women's division of the FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) Africa zone's 4.3 championships in Gaborone, Botswana, last week. The title of FIDE Master was won by South Africans Dr Deon Solomons and Calvin Klaasen, according to Chess SA's website. Players from Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Comores competed.
