Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2013

Hi everyone,

Zambian FM Gwillia Bwayla took first place at the 4.3 zonal chess championship that was played 1st-8th May in Gaborone, Botswana. Bwayla finished with 8/9 points, leaving his closest followers two points ahead. This impressive performance leaves no doubts regarding who was the strongest player in the tournament. His rating performance was almost 200 points over his elo rating. Three players tied on 6/9. Zimbabwean untitled player Rodwell Makoto was declared second on tiebreaks. The women’s tournament was won by WCM Charlize Van Zyl from South Africa. She finished 5.5/7 in the single round-robin championship. Local WIM Mudongo Boikhutso arrived second. (Report by Chessdom)
