Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2013

Hi everyone,

The Quebec Chess Open Championship 2013 is scheduled to take place from July 21-28 at the beautiful venue in Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, 3200 Côte Sainte-Catherine, Montréal. The tournament will be held in six sections: Invitational, Open, Section A (U2200), Section B (U1700), Section C (U1300 and unrated) and Mini-COQ.

The organisers have secured Grandmaster participation in the main Invitational section and this presents an excellent opportunity to win title norms. The total prize fund is 18,000$ guaranteed. Top rated players are: GM Lazaro Bruzon Batista, GM Bator Sambuev, GM Eric Hansen, GM Sarunas Sulskis, GM Alexis Cabrera, GM Eduardas Rozentalis, GM Ioan-Cristian Chirila, GM Reynaldo Vera and GM Walter Arencibia. GM Wesley So is the defending champion. Find more details at www.fqechecs.qc.ca.

Rules and format
Time Control: 40 moves / 90 minutes + 30 minutes/mate + 30 sec. increment.

Rating: FIDE rating is used for the invitational section. For the other sections, we take the highest rating (FQE, national or FIDE). The invitational and the open sections are FIDE, FQE and CFC rated. All the other sections are only FQE rated. Unrated players cannot win more than 100$, except in the Open section.
Byes: Possibility of three (3) ½ byes in the first 4 rounds, if asked before the tournament.
