Russian Grandmaster Aleksandr Rakhmanov assumed the lead in the 15th Dubai Open Chess Championship after beating GM Viktor Laznicka with black pieces in round 8. Rakhmanov is holding 7 points and is paired to play white with GM Yuriy Kuzubov in the final round. Five players are just half-a-point adrift of the leader.
