Hi everyone,
The 10th Balagna International Open took place on 13th-14th April at the gymnasium of Calvi in France. It was a rapid event with a time control of 10 minutes for the whole game plus 3 seconds per move. The knock-out system was used among the 16 participants that qualified from the previous open tournament. Etienne Bacrot took the 4,000 Euros reserved for first prize after defeating fellow GM Laurent Fressinet in the final match. Bacrot had beaten Richard Rapport in the semi-finals, while Fressinet had taken down Vladislav Tkachev. Both finalists qualified for the round-of-16 of the 17th Corsica Masters later this year.
