WGM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez has won a special round-robin chess tournament in Belgrade, according to the latest chess news via Fide. The 45th International Women’s Grandmaster chess tournament was held from 3rd to 10th March at the Hotel Slavija in Belgrade. The 10-player round robin event was organized by the Belgrade Chess Association, with sponsorship from Assembly of the City of Belgrade. Top seeded WGM Sabrina Vega Gutierrez from Spain dominated the tournament to achieve a convincing victory with 8.0/9 points. WIM Dina Drozdova from Russia finished second, a point behind the winner, to score a WGM norm.
One of the longest running chess tournaments in the world, established back in 1965, is celebrating 8th March – International Women’s Day.
Final standings:
1. WGM Vega Gutierrez Sabrina ESP 2364 – 8.0
2. WIM Drozdova Dina RUS 2270 – 7.0
3. WGM Chelushkina Irina SRB 2281 – 5.0
4. WIM Dragomirescu Angela ROU 2225 – 4.5
5-6. WGM Benderac Ana SRB 2226 and WGM Voiska Margarita BUL 2289 – 4.0
7. Zarkovic Mila SRB 2053 – 3.5
8-10. WIM Vega Gutierrez Belinda ESP 2190, WFM Miladinovic Lena SRB 2116 and Nonkovic Bogdana SRB 2052 – 3.0
