Hi everyone,

Former world chess champion Veselin Topalov-Mayor Gustavo Posse

Former world chess champion Veselin Topalov recently held a simul and a small chess tournament 'Copa Ciudad de San Isidro' (with players of the Argentina chess league and Olympiad team) at the Teatro Municipal Council Viejo. Toplaov, accomapnied by Mayor of San Isidro, Gustavo Posse, played 100 simultaneous games with students of the Municipal Chess School at the Museum of Alfaro.

The mayor said he was happy to host Topalov and it was a great learning experience for the children. In perfect Castilian, Topalov said he started playing chess at age five. "Practice is useful when it is fun. Chess helps develop patience, self-control and responsibility," he said. Topalov also said, "Chess is a complete activity which teaches respect for your opponent and decision-making. Chess is both a sport and art."

The president of the Argentina Chess Federation, Mario Petrucci, in charge of organising the event, said San Isidro is a municipality committed to the sport of chess. Topalov won the round-robin chess tournament as well. (www.zonanortediario.com.ar)
