HIT Chess Open in Slovenia: GM Oleg Korneev Wins Clear First

Hi everyone,
 

Here is the latest chess tournament news via Fide. The 18th HIT Open was held on 25-31st January at the Hotel Casino Perla in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The main event with 69 participants was played over nine rounds of Swiss system. Spanish GM Oleg Korneev emerged winner by collecting 7,5 points, leaving the nearest followers half a point behind.

The top prizes were 1.100 €, 800 €, 600 €, 500 €, 400 € and 300 €. In addition, HIT Open B for U15 juniors and U1600 rated players was staged concurrently with the main event. Elvis Džamastagič IV SLO 1444 took a clear first place with 7,0/9 points despite the poor start of two consecutive losses. 20 players competed in this group.
