Hi everyone,
This is an interesting chess tournament we heard about - considering the prize: a plot of land in a Russian village. The Russian Chess Federation reports about a special chess tournament held on December 29 at the Central House of Chess in Moscow.
The chess tournament Piterenka 2012 format was blitz and rapid with strongest Russian players participating including Sergey Karjakin, Alexander Grischuk, Dmitry Yakovenko and Ian Nepomniachtchi. Participants played two rounds in rapid chess and blitz two laps with Daniel Oaks as commentator. Sergey Karjakin and Alexander Grischuk from the start took the lead, leaving the competition behind and scored the same number of points. To determine the winner, they had to play the decisive game "Armageddon" where Karjakin had Black.
Grischuk obtained a winning position with an extra rook, but in the last seconds Karjakin managed to force the game into stalemate. The draw allowed Karjakin to win a piece of land in the village Piterenka. Here is the chess video:
