Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hi everyone,

Here is the latest chess news via Fide about the Boston Chess Congress that was held from January 11-13, 2013, at the Hyatt Harborside at Logan Airport, 101 Harborside Dr, Boston, Massachusetts. GM Chao Li from China continues him acclimation to the U.S., topping off his third-place finish in the super-strong North American Open in Las Vegas last month with a convincing clear victory in the Boston Chess Congress this past weekend.

Chao finished the tournament a point ahead of the field, defeating IMs Jonathan Yedidia and Mark Esserman, then downing Denys Shmelov, before drawing with GM Alexander Ivanov, turning in a powerful 2829 tournament performance en route to his $1,067 prize for finishing in clear first in the Premier Section.

Ivanov and Shmelov tied for second with 3,5 points, while WGM Nazi Paikidze finished in fourth at 3-1. Steve Barrett won the Major section and $800 prize with 4,5/5 points. This section had 25 participants and was also FIDE rated. Find more details at the tournament website.
