WIM Carla Heredia Serrano has won the Panamerican Women’s Chess Championship. The Panamerican Women’s Chess Championship 2012 took place from 23rd to 30th November 2012 in the Sala Ernesto Campos of Municipal Palace in Montevideo, Uruguay, according to Chessdom.
The tournament was played over nine rounds of Swiss system with the rate of play 90 minutes + 30 seconds from the first move.
The 21-years old WIM Carla Heredia Serrano from Ecuador became the Champion by taking a clear first place with 7,0 points, escaping her compatriot IM Martha Fierro Baquero by half a point. Heredia Serrano is also awarded with the Woman Grandmaster title. WFM Aurora Edith Felix Vega from Peru edged Ayelen Martinez from Argentina on tie-break to claim the bronze emdal.
The Champion earned $1250, Vice-Champion is awarded with $1000, while the bronze medalist took $750 home.
