Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hi everyone,

The Milan Chess Club hosted the 33rd Memorial Edoardo Crespi from December 1-8 with a Master Group played over nine rounds of Swiss system with 60 participants from 11 countries: Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Bulgaria, FYR Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Philippines and Italy, according to the latest chess news via Fide.

Top seeds Grandmasters Yuri Solodovnichenko and Sabino Brunello shared the first place with 7,0/9 points each. Solodovnichenko lifts the trophy thanks to the better tie-break.

Top three finishers with Claudio Noè, President of Scacchistica Milanese, and Marco Santandrea, chief arbiter.

A small surprise followed the awarding ceremony as the two winners were called for anti-doping control. GM Nikita Maiorov (BLR) and IM Aleksandar Colovic (MKD) shared the third place with 6,5 points each. The 12-years old Luca Moroni scored the first norm for the title of National Master and only narrowly missed the IM norm.

Together with the minor tournaments (three groups), the 33rd Memorial Edoardo Crespi gathered 250 players.
Last year's winner was GM Baadur Jobava. Read more at the official website.
