GM Tamaz Gelashvili Wins Boardwalk Chess Open 2012

GM Tamaz Gelashvili has won the open section at the 3rd Annual Boardwalk Chess Open, according to the latest chess tournament news via Fide. GM Gelashvili finished in clear 1st in the Open Section after starting with four wins then drawing in the final round to secure the victory, taking home $1,896 for his weekend’s efforts. 

The 3rd Annual Boardwalk Open was held from October 19-21, 2012 at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, 1401 Ocean Ave, Asbury Park, New Jersey. The event had a $15,000 projected prize fund (based on 180 entries) with $10,000 guaranteed. Open Section: $2000-1000-500-300, clear or tiebreak winner $100 bonus, top Under 2300/Unr $700-350. FIDE rated.

Round 3 turned out to be the crucial round of the event as Gelashvili beat the highest seed, GM Sergey Erenbury, while the other GM in the field, Mikheil Kekelidze, was beaten by Aaron Kahn. More details available on the tournament website
