European Chess Club Cup Begins Today with 43 Teams in Eilat, Israel

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hi everyone,

The European Chess Club Cup begins today and would run till October 18. A total of 43 teams are taking part in the event in Eilat, Israel. Of the 27 federations that will be represented at the event, 35 teams are playing in the open section and eight teams are playing in the women's section. The European Chess Club Cup will feature 110 GMs and 10 WGMs with at least 28 players rated over 2700!

Here is a promotional video from the official website of the European Chess Club Cup website.

The city of Eilat on the shores of the Red Sea was the Israel Chess Federation's natural selection to host the European Club Cup. Eilat has an excellent central location in the Middle East between Taba in Egypt and the Jordanian city of Aqaba. Eilat's popularity are clear: the excellent weather, gorgeous beaches, and the aquamarine waters of the Red Sea, featuring a stunning natural coral reef. The climate is comfortable, even during the winter (28-30°C in October), and the landscape is a unique meeting point between desert dunes and mountainous slopes.

You can cheer Chess Queen™ Alexandra Kosteniuk who will be playing Board 1 for her team. Here is the list of the participants for the women's section:
