Hi everyone,

Finally, we get to hear some chess news, other than that from the Istanbul Chess Olympiad! (Not that anyone's complaining) When the world's best chess players gather, where else can one look. As the 40th edition of the Chess Olympiad draws to a close, we have news of the very strong Chigorin Chess Memorial taking place in St Petersburg, Russia from October 27 to November 4. It is a stage of the Russian Chess Cup, just as the recently finished Botvinnik Memorial was.

With a prize fund that's close to $40,000, the chess tournament has attracted some of the best chess players in the world. Top seeded players are GM Krishnan Sasikiran (India), GM Alexei Shirov (Latvia), GM Pavel Eljanov (Ukraine), and GM Alexey Dreev (Russia). Their main competition comes from GMs Zvjaginsev, Zhigalko, Parimarjan Negi, Mateusz Bartel, Iordachescu, Timofeev, Khismatullin, Socko, Smirin, Lysyj, Lenderman, Burmakin, Andriasian, Ipatov, and Solak, all of them above 2600 Elo.

The official website can be accessed at this link: http://spbchesstournaments.com/ Last date of entries would be October 27 12:45 till 16:45 hours in the playing hall itself.

Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, 30 seconds increment per move from move 1. Players who are late for the game for 30 minutes get loss by default. No draw offer can be made before move 41.
