Boxing champion Vitali Klitschko took on former World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik in a chess exhibition match on Thursday. The match took place in Switzerland, where the WBC Heavyweight Champion is preparing for his September 8 defence against German contender Manuel Charr at Moscow's Olimpiisky arena.
"Kramnik, before putting me in check, offered a draw and I agreed," Klitschko was quoted as saying by the Ukrainian website. Klitschko, 41, is the first boxing champion with a Ph.D. degree, which earned him his nickname Dr. Ironfist. Kramnik, 37, held the Classical World Chess Championship title from 2000 to 2006, and the undisputed World Chess Championship from 2006 to 2007.
According to chess-news.ru, Kramnik would take out time to watch the boxing match during the chess olympiad which he is playing in Istanbul in a few days.
