Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012
Hi everyone,
The Oslo Chess International 2012 will be organised at Thon Hotel Ullevaal Stadion during the Norwegian autumn holiday 30 September – 7 October, again as a cooperation between IA IO Hans Olav Lahlum and the Akademisk chess club from the Oslo University. Tournament system will be the same as in 2011, meaning a GM-group for players above 2150 and an ELO-group for players below 2150.
Hi everyone,
The tournament again will be played with the classical high quality time limits 2 hours in 40 moves and then 1 hour for the rest of the game. Last year's winner was GM Matthew Sadler. The playing venue is Thon Hotel Ullevaal Stadion, a large hotel and conference centre, right next to Norway's national football stadium in Oslo.
The hotel offers excellent facilities to play chess games in the playing hall, as well as for analysis and blitz playing outside the playing hall afterwards. The playing hotel is a two minute walk from the bus and tube station. It is two minutes tube travel from the Oslo University, and less than ten minutes from the main railway station (Oslo S).
Groups:
GM-group: A 9-round Swiss open for all players having the official titles GM, IM, FM, WGM, WIM or WFM from FIDE.
Also qualified are other male players with an official FIDE-ELO of at least 2150, and other female players with an official FIDE-ELO of at least 2000.
Last date for registration is 1 September 2012, but later registrations might be accepted if space etc allows.
Find all the details of the entry fees, special hotel offers, tournament regulations, etc. at the official website of the Oslo Chess Open.
