The European Youth Chess Championship 2012 is taking place from August 17-25 in Prague, Czech Republic. A total of 1,173 players from 46 countries are taking part in the chess tournament. They are competing in 12 categories, one for boys and one for girls in each age group U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18.
A gala opening ceremony was organized before the start of the chess tournament that was attended by guests including famous organizer Dr. Jan Mazuch, the chairman of the Czech Chess Federation Mr. Viktor Novotny, the mayor of the city of Prague Dr. Bohuslav Svoboda, and parents.
