More latest chess news coming in from Africa -- Uganda to be precise. National Chess League defending champions Mulago Kings lost their eighth round match to Kireka Chess Club 3.5-1.5 in the ninth round played at Hotel Africana on Sunday. But, they bounced back by beating Makerere University Business School 5-0 and Makerere University 4-1 in the ninth and 10th rounds respectively.
Newcomers and title contenders D'Mark also closed in with two 5-0 victories over Uganda Christian University and Cornerhouse to leapfrog Kings into second position with the same number of points but the former having a better tie break.
In other games, City Chess Club beat Entebbe Knightmare and Bank of Uganda 5-0 and 4-1 respectively, Mulago Queens shocked Kireka 3-2 but lost to Aviation 3-2; Uganda Chess Academy beat Bank of Uganda 5-0 but later lost in the 10th round to Aviation 4-1.
