Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012
Hi everyone,
Yes, that's a chess battle! The 2012 Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is an annual festival that includes period-oriented food, theater, music and crafts as seen during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It usually runs from August 4 through October 28 on weekends. It is staged on the 35-acre Mount Hope Estate in Mount Hope, Pa. The popular festival draws upward of 10,000 visitors per day, according to Candace Smith, communications and education program director for the festival. She says this is a number that is always growing because people visit once and then often return.
Chess is always a central part of the festival. A special human chess match is held during the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and the script is re-written every year with a new idea. Lots of auditions are also held. This year’s Shakespearean play will be a modified, shortened version of "Henry V" complete with acrobatics and jousting knights.
