Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hi everyone,

Indian chess had more to cheer about this Thursday as n Srinathand Ivana Maria Furtado won the Asian junior Chess Championships in the open and girls' category in Tashkent. The title also gave them their first Grandmaster norms.

Srinath played well and won the event with a round to spare. Srinath has won the under-12 world championship in Belfort in 2005. Another Indian chess player, Shyam Sundar, had won the title in Sri Lanka last year when Srinath had been runners-up. Ivana Furtado also performed well. She was followed by Vo Thi Kim Phung of Vietnam and Rucha Pujari of India.
