Hi everyone,
Hi everyone,
David Navara and Peter Svidler in Prague |
Russian Grandmaster Peter Svidler has won the traditional Čez Chess Trophy against Czech GM David Navara in Prague. Svidler won the second game in a row to win the trophy though one game is still to be played. Svidler declined a draw offer to continue his attack. The score stands Peter Svidler-David Navara 2.5-0.5.
The traditional Čez Chess Trophy offers top-rated Czech GM David Navara an opportunity to play a strong grandmaster from around the world once a year. He has already played Vassily Ivanchuk, Vladimir Kramnik and Judit Polgar. Rapid chess games have been played in the previous years.
However, in 2012, Navara and Svidler play a match of four classical games with the FIDE time control 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for finishing the game. There is a 30 second increment for ever move as well. The sponsor is Čez Group, a conglomerate of companies involved in the electricity generation, distribution, and trade.
Venue is the Malostranská beseda in central Prague, close to the famous Charles Bridge. The match is part of a bigger festival which includes lectures given by Slovakian GM Ján Markoš, Israeli IM Yochanan Afek and Einar S. Einarsson. There's also a philatelist exposition, and on Friday both Navara and Svidler gave simuls. You can replay the third game with Chess King.
