Australian, Emirati win Asian Amateurs Chess in Sydney
Australian junior Ari Dale (rated 2061) has won the 2012 Asian Amateur Championship which was held 1-8 June 2012 at the Parramatta RSL Chess Club in Sydney, according to the latest chess news update by Fide. The Women’s Amateur Championship was won by Vineetha Wijesuriya (Luxman’s sister who recently transferred Federations from Sri Lanka to Australia).
The Unrated Amateur Championship was won by Tarek Al-Taher of UAE. The event was organised by the Oceania Chess Federation on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation, who awarded Asian Master titles to all three Champions. Full results at Chess Results. The prize-giving was followed by the 2012 Oceania Blitz Championship which was won by Australian IM George Xie.
