The chess event had 8 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400, Under 1200 and Under 1000.
GM Magesh Panchanathan of India finished first with 7/9 points which included a victory over defending champion GM Tamaz Gelashvili in the final round. The Open Chess Section was a 9 round Swiss tournament with GM and IM norm opportunities. This group was played over a 5-day schedule. The event had a $80,000 projected prize fund with $60,000 guaranteed.
