Linares Chess 2012 Postponed

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hi everyone,

According to the latest chess news update via the Spanish version of Chessdom. The traditional Linares Chess Fest - known as the Wimbledon of chess - has to be postponed for the year 2012 as well.

Francisco Fernandez managing, technical director of the organising committee, said the reason was not because of economic problems, but for lack of dates. He tried to find a venue to share the responsibility for organising and expanding the scope of the Linares chess tournament. The Autonomous University of Mexico was the leading candidate, but unfortunately nothing could materialize, and despite financial resources, apt dates for the chess tournament could not be found.

The last edition of the tournament was won by Veselin Topalov in 2010.
