Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hello everyone,

Focus is a chess grandmaster's greatest virtue! We had another talented chess player prove that this week at the Brunei Campomanes Chess Memorial Grandmaster Open 2012. GM Dzhumaev Marat pulled off a last-round victory over FIDE Master Pitra Andika - who had been leading all the way till then - to lift the title.

Meanwhile, another young player from Uzbekistan, International Master Jakhongir Vakhidov, won his last round game against IM Sharma Dinesh K from India to take second place.

The Brunei Campomanes Memorial Grandmaster Open 2012 was organised by the Brunei Chess Federation (BCF) at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan from 7-12 April with a prize fund of USD 10,000 provided by Rosneft. Young 13-year-old Malaysian Yeoh Li Tian, rated 2204, finished in a tie for 4th-8th places while successfully playing four Grandmasters, two International Masters and one FIDE Master and missed an IM norm by just half a point. You can access more chess details of the tournament here.
