Hello everyone,
This is already the most exciting chess news of the year 2012 so far. Women's World Chess Champion Hou Yifan and Grandmaster Nigel Short both scored 8/10 in the Gibraltar Masters so a play-off is now required. In the final round today Hou Yifan drew her game against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov on board 1 and Nigel Short defeated Krishnan Sasikiran on board 3.
The play-offs have begun and you can follow live at the GibraltarChessFestival website. We are already delighted to congratulate the young teenager GM Hou Yifan for the fantastic performance at this strong open and GM Nigel Short for his flowing natural style to get to the top. Of course, historic event for talented youngster.
