GM Aleksandr Shimanov Wins 41st Rilton Chess Cup

Hello everyone,

The latest chess news update via www.chessdom.com is that GM Aleksandr Shimanov has won the 41st Rilton Chess Cup. The Stockholm Chess Federation organized the 41st Rilton Cup from 27th December 2011 to 5th January 2012. This year’s tournament, with a prize fund of more than 200 000 SEK (about 20 000 euro), was played in three groups: Rilton Cup, Rilton Elo and Rilton Open (the Open was only for Nordic players with a national rating lower than 1800).



GM Aleksandr Shimanov 

GM Aleksandr Shimanov from Sankt Petersburg concluded his excellent run with a draw in the final round to take a clear first place with 7.5 points, full point ahead of the nearest opposition. In the last year event Shimanov finished clear 2nd behind GM Sergey Volkov. Five players share the 2nd place with 6.5 points each, among them being the former Rilton Cup winner GM Eduardas Rozentalis who also won today to climb in the standings. Final ranking bellow.
