Delhi Chess Open R7: Barbosa and Gomez maintain lead

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hello everyone,

That was a video - as you have already come to know - from the ongoing Delhi Chess Open 2012.

GM Oliver Barbosa and GM Gomez John Paul

Filipino Grandmasters Oliver Barbosa and Gomez John Paul drew their top-board game in the seventh round at the open to remain in the lead. Meanwhile, World Under-18 bronze medalist, Debashis Das shocked second seed Grandmaster Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus. Playing with black pieces in Semi-Slav variation, Das took his opponent’s queen for rook and bishop in 32 move and used his queen and knight combination to good effect in the middle game.

Five players including Debashis Das and International Master K Rathnakaran, who held top seed Sandipan Chanda in the seventh round encounter are sharing the second spot with six points along with Russian Grandmasters Andrei Deviatkin, Evgeny Gleizerov and Filipino Grandmaster Mark Paragua.
