There is a four-way tie for first at the Chennai Chess Open 2012 after nine round In the ninth round, International Master Akshayraj Kore defeated Grandmaster Deepan Chakkravarthy to join Aleksandrov Aleksej (Belarus), Yu Ruiyuan, Zeng Chongsheng (both China) for the top spot with 7.5 points.

There is a four-way tie for first at the Chennai Chess Open 2012 after nine round In the ninth round, International Master Akshayraj Kore defeated Grandmaster Deepan Chakkravarthy to join Aleksandrov Aleksej (Belarus), Yu Ruiyuan, Zeng Chongsheng (both China) for the top spot with 7.5 points.
In second place with 7.0 points are GMs Oleksienko Mikhailo, Kravtsiv Martyn (both Ukraine), S P Sethuraman (India), Marat Dzhumaev (Uzbekistan), Hoang Thanh Trang (Hungary) and John Paul Gomez (Philippines) among others.
A fighting draw against Grandmaster S P Sethuraman in the second board fetched Yu Ruiyuan of China a Grandmaster norm. The second norm of the day was achieved by Shashikant Kutwal who defeated veteran Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua. Kutwal earned his fourth IM norm and now requires to reach 2400 elo to get his IM title. The top board game between Grandmasters Aleksandrov Aleksej (Belarus) and Oleksienko Mikhailo (Ukraine) ended in a fighting draw. Two more rounds are to played in the 16-nation event.
