Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011
Hello everyone,
Chess in the United Arabs Emirates has been progressing steadily. It is interesting that they organised a chess festival as part of the UAE National Day celebations in Al Ain. The tournaments were held as part of the Chess in Society program of the Al Ain Chess Club. GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami of Iran and IM Ilgar Bajarani of Azarbaijan won the Rapid and Blitz open tournaments. Here is a photo from Fide.
Ghaem Maghami scored 7.5 points in the 9-round Swiss to win the top prize in the AED15,000 Rapid Chess tournament. Bajarani scored 8 points out of 9 rounds in the AED15,000 blitz tournament.
