Hi everyone,

Congratulations to Woman Grandmaster Mary Ann Gomes for winning the 38th Indian national women's chess championship with a draw against WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty in Chennai on Wednesday. Gomes's superior tie-break gave her the title as she finished the tournament with eight points. Also on eight points was International Master Eesha Karavade. The latter beat Woman Grandmaster Padmini Rout in the last round.

"I feel amazing winning my first National Women's Premier Championship. It is a completely different experience. I guess, when I think of it, I feel great joy. I dedicate this title to my mother, Freda Gomes," said Gomes. Top seed Tania Sachdev had to settle for the third place with a win over Woman International Master Sai Meera in the last round. The top six players are seeded for the next National Women's Premier championship and earn the right to represent the country in international events for a year.
