Hi everyone,
The chess news tournament update is that 76th Spanish Chess Championship was held from 15th to 23rd October in Arenal den Castell, Menorca. A total 53 players competed in the 9-round Swiss event.
GM Miguel Illescas, also top seed in the Championship, held the lead throughout the tournament, but in the last round he drew with IM Olga Alexandrova and allowed IM Alvar Alonso Rosell to catch up with the shared first place with 7 points each. Rosell got the winner's trophy with a better tie-break. You can access the official website for more info.

Folks I think Alexandrova is Illescas' wife!!! So if she had lost to her husband in the last round he would have won the tournament heh heh i am not sure but i think
ReplyDeleteOh boy was he mad at her later or what this is the funniest event i have heard about in chess all year - i knew she was from ukraine but married to the Spanish GM no.
