Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hello everyone,

The chess news from the Grand Slam Bilbao Chess Masters is that - as luck would have it - tournament leader Vassily Ivanchuk lost to tail-ender Francisco Vallejo. Both Anand-Nakamura and Aronian-Carlsen ended in a draw, and so Ivanchuk is now still five points ahead of Anand, Aronian, Carlsen and Nakamura! You can access the official website at this link.

Grand Slam Masters Final 2011 | Round 6 Standings (football)

That is the beauty of chess. The psychological factor, the physical state, the mental and emotional state. You could calculate like a computer but these other factors change the playing field. Makes it all so dynamic. Human chess will always be just more supreme than machine chess. Always.

Possibly Ivanchuk lowered his guard cause he was facing the tailender. But then also Vallejo has the home ground advantage now.

    Vallejo's endgame choices were killing.

  7. Is Anand able to hide his preparation or it doesn't really matter at that level.

  9. At the Bilbao opening ceremony some players said that especially this year they liked the football scoring system, because even with Ivanchuk having such a big lead, 'anything can happen'. Wow

I like human chess - particularly the one with beauties and beauty wins.
