Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hi everyone,

The latest tournament chess news we have is that GM Aramis Pedraza has won the Bogota University Chess Festival that was held from October 13-17. It was the fifth edition of the event and included several tournaments like the international elite, children's, juniors etc.

A total of 175 players took part in the 9-round Elite Open. Cuban Grandmasters Aramis Alvarez Pedraza and Reynaldo Ortiz Suarez, and Colombian GM Sergio Barrientos shared the first place with 7.5 points each. GM Alvarez Pedraza won the winner’s trophy on best additional criteria. The organisers had also arranged various academic and artistic activities, conferences and exhibitions, parallel to the chess tournaments.

The University is holding the festival since 2006. Last year a closed Magistral with eleven Grandmasters from 8 countries was held to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Independence of Colombia. You can read a nice report in English at www.chessdom.com.
