Girls can play chess too - American teacher's chess gift in South Korea

Hi everyone,

Chess can also be played by girls! Yes, we have some nice photos sent to us by friend John Foster all the way from South Korea. John is an American teaching elementary school in South Korea. He says, "I am a chess player at not too high a level. But I recognise that young kids can benefit greatly from learning and studying chess so I have been teaching the kids here to play. Many of the girls were reluctant to play because they had been under the impression that chess is a boys' game. I show all of my students your website and to inspire them and let them know girls can play too!"



Great. Keep up the good work John. The girls will know one day the precious gift of chess they receive now.

    Everyone aren't you following the Nalchik women's chess grand prix - i find it more interesting than the Bilbao Super Final. Sorry just my opinion.

    I am prompted to reply to a comment on this blog. Yes I still believe that men's chess is way stronger than that of women. But right now nothing is happening much in Bilbao. We know it's down to Ivanchuk Carlsen and Naka. Women's chess is more interesting not necessarily more beautiful. Also women's chess is more stylish. Shrug. Everyone would agree.

    People who don't like any aspect of women's chess should defer from watching and reading about it than always commenting that they don't like it.

    Who said I didn't like it. I just said it's not as stronger as men's chess. That's not NOT liking it. Ha.

    It is heartening to know that more and more girls are playing chess around the world. It's people like John who are helping. Fathers, brothers, teachers. Chess is a beautiful life skill both for boys and girls. We are trying to promote it at school level in Sri Lanka. We always talk about your achievements Chess Queen.

    Chess is a girl thing and its guys like John who show the path. The value for girls of chess is more important than boys. It gives them the confidence and analytical thinking in a very non-threatening environment. Even chess queen was taught by her dad. Wunderschon
