Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hi everyone,

The chess news update is that the Corsica Masters 2011 has begun. As usual, all the top-seeded players won their games in the first round with only one surprise of the day being GM Cheparinov drawing Lennard Loewe (2077)

The tournament includes more than 180 players from 20 countries including the GM Fressinet, GM Sasikiran, GM Grigoryan, GM Cheparinov, GM Gawain Jones, GM Tregubov, GM Mamedov, GM Ghaem Maghami, and other titled players. Here is a cool video from www.chessdom.com. Enjoy.

You can access the official website at this link where you can also watch the live transmission of the games.

Should be an interesting tournament. I am rooting for Sasikiran naturally. I feel his potential has been underutilised. He should play more often.

I'd say where are the girls?

  5. Girls are a big distraction at chess tournaments and if they are your opponent in the first round its much pressure. At least I think so.

A tournament is very dull without any girls. Yeah you are under pressure when playing one but that's ok i would still like to have them around.
