Hello everyone,
Here is a very interesting chess video. It's about circular chess!
In 1983, a Lincoln painter called Dave Reynolds, an avid Chess player, was inspired by a picture in an old history book which showed a circular chess board.
There was no description of how to play and so he decided to play using normal rules without the more recent innovations such as Castling and En Passent, which he didn't like anyway. He developed the idea further by making a board and challenging innocent bystanders in his local pub.
From those early days the game has attracted interest locally and internationally, and in 1996 the first World Championships took place in the very pub where it was conceived.

I hate all these chess variants. As if regular chess is not hard enough.
ReplyDeleteI doubt if circular chess or any other variants can catch on like serious regular chess. For example, chess960 it's so much for fun and stuff but it's never really getting in the main league. At least I am not that serious when I play it and none are in our club.
ReplyDeleteChess variants can only be for fun. Real chess is chess! No duplicating or changing that.
