Abhijeet Gupta leads Indian national chess championship after seven rounds

Hi everyone,

The latest chess news update about the Indian national chess championships via www.chessdom.com is that despite a draw against S Arun Prasad, former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta continued to lead with 5.5 points at the end of the seventh round. All the three Woman Grandmasters Swati Ghate and Soumya Swaminathan of Maharashtra and Padmini Rout lost their games in the seventh round. After seven rounds, the standings are as follows:

1. GM Gupta Abhijeet 2625 – 5.5
2-6. GM Sethuraman S P 2529, GM Deepan Chakkravarthy J 2470, GM Gopal G N 2572, IM Venkatesh M R 2479 and GM Sengupta Deep 2572 – 5.0
7-14. IM Shyam Nikil P 2418, GM Sriram Jha 2410, IM Shyam Sundar M 2457, GM Bakre Tejas 2507, GM Arun Prasad S 2522, IM Kulkarni Vikramaditya 2449, GM Kunte Abhijit 2528 and IM Karthikeyan P 2408 – 4.5

15-20. WGM Padmini Rout 2356, IM Saptarshi Roy 2385, IM Ashwin Jayaram 2473, GM Adhiban B 2551, IM Lalith Babu M R 2495 and GM Thipsay Praveen M 2433 – 4.0 etc.
