Hi everyone,

It's great to know when governments come forward to support chess. So it's heartening that the Peru Congress has honoured the World Junior Girls' Champion Deysi Cori with the Congressional Medal of Honour.

In Lima, this Monday, Congress President Daniel Abugattas awarded the congressional medal of honor for sporting achievement to world junior chess champion Deysi Cori. The 18-year-old WGM also received an honorary diploma for her outstanding sports career and a money prize of five thousand soles (US$1,830). “Today, the Peruvian Congress is pleased to host and recognise the achievements of Deysi Cori, this young, determined and persevering woman we are all proud of. Let’s praise and imitiate her selfless love for Peru,” the Congress president added. Last Friday, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala also honored Cori with the medal of honor for sporting achievement and gave her a money prize of 25,000 nuevos soles (over US$9,000).

  1. Thanks for publishing this news. Deysi is a true inspiration to young chessplayers everywhere, but particularly to those in her own country.
