The chess news from China is that the talented women's world chess champion Hou Yifan has taken sole lead in the Shenzhen Women's Chess Grand Prix 2011. In the eighth round, she beat Viktorija Cmilyte. Now, Yifan has 6 points after eight rounds. Following close behind is Zhao Xue with 5.5 points, Anna Muzychuk and Ruan Lufei with 5 points each, Ju Wenjun, Tan Zhongyi with 4.5 points each, Zhu Chen on 4, Cmilyte on 3.5, Elina Danielian and Munguntuul Batkhuyag on 3 points each. Ekaterina Kovalevskaya has 2.5 points while Yildiz Betul Cemre has 1.5 points.
Round 8 also saw Zhu Chen draw with Kovalevskaya, Munguntuul lose to Danielian, Yildiz lose to Wenjun, Xue beat Lufei and Muzychuk draw with Zhongyi.
