There was thunder and lightning in the third round at the Grand Slam Chess Masters in Sao Paulo as Viswanathan Anand lost to Vassily Ivanchuk and Magnus Carlsen lost to Francisco Vallejo. Hikaru Makamura and Levon Aronian decided to draw their game.
