Hi everyone,

Grandmaster Robert Hovhannisyan (Armenia) and WGM Olga Girya (Russia) were leading in the Open and Girls' sections at the SDAT-RAMCO 50th World Junior and 29th Junior Girls Chess Championships after 12 rounds on Sunday. One more round is to be played.

In the open section, Hovhannisyan defeated American medal prospect GM Ray Robson on the top board and moved to 10 points. Half a point behind is Polish Grandmaster Swiercz Dariusz at 9.5 points. The fight for the bronze medal and third spot will be among Ter Sahakyan Samvel (Armenia), Vladislav Kovalev (Belarus), Vasif Durarbeyli (Azerbaijan) and Sahaj Grover (India), all on 8.5 points.

Meanwhile, Girya (10.5) will start the title favorite in the final round, holding a crucial half a point lead ahead of Peruvian Cori T. Deysi. With gold and silver medals being shared among the duo, the struggle is going to be for the bronze medal.

I would like to put in a special word for Rombaldoni. Very talented boy from Italy. He had a fantastic start till he fell back around the tenth round. But he is the one to watch among these I think. In the Girls I peg for Deysi.

  2. Yes Romboldoni possibly got the pressure upon him of winning. Talented Italian for sure. One to watch in the days to come.
